New Covid-19 Rules & Restrictions For Those Returning To The U.K.

With travellers coming back to the UK from abroad, it is compulsory to go into quarantine for 10 days. This compulsion has a new rule to it as well.

As of 15th February, it’s now a mandatory requirement to have a test for COVID-19 on or before day 2 of quarantine for variant surveillance, and have another test on day 8 of quarantine. This is to check that they are not carrying the COVID-19 virus.

For people returning to the UK from the common travel area (United Kingdom, Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands) and the red list, they must:

  • Quarantine for 10 days in a government approved hotel

  • Have a COVID-19 test on day 2 and 8 of quarantine

  • Follow the national lockdown rules.

On day 2, you must have a COVID-19 test. You can book this test on the government website and are allowed to leave your quarantine location but must return back to the location as soon as possible. If you cannot get a hold of a test, contact us directly and we will send you a Travel Testing COVID-19 Package.

Once you have tested negative on day 2 and day 8, and have completed the full 10 days quarantine period, you can return home.

Alternatively, if you are doing a Test and Release programme, you can have a COVID-19 test on day 5. However, even if you test negative from Test and Release, you will still need to take a test on day 8 of quarantine before completing the full 10 days required quarantine.

If you test positive on either day 2 or 8, you must quarantine for an additional 10 days from the day you took the test.
